Biography

David Schwartzberg, MD, is a colorectal surgeon who has joined Harbor View Medical Services, a proud member of Mather Hospital-Northwell Health. Dr Schwartzberg says, “In my training I was very fortunate to gain experience treating a wide range of conditions and I am thrilled to return to Long Island and bring my expertise to the community.” After his residency in General Surgery at NYU/Bellevue, Dr. Schwartzberg completed a Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic, with further advanced training in the management of inflammatory bowel disease at NYU Langone Health. He performed research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and has written numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He has also presented nationally on surgical techniques for the treatment of colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. Schwartzberg specializes in minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery, complicated Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis surgery and performs ileal pouch anal anastomosis/J-pouch and redo pouch surgery. He also treats colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, perianal fissures and abscesses and other gastrointestinal conditions. On his role as a surgeon, Dr. Schwartzberg states, “I am humbled to serve and treat patients as a colorectal surgeon, and I feel privileged to be part of their journey to recovery. I see many patients that have been suffering and are often told there are no other options, however, our approach at Mather Colorectal is to treat patients as if they were our own family and return their quality of life.”

Dr. Schwartzberg is located at 70 North Country Road, Port Jefferson NY. He participates with all major insurance plans and has immediate availability for new patients.
